Five Upstart Americans is the first release of earlier demo versions of songs from Black Monk Time, plus other previously unheard songs. It was released on CD in 1999 by Omplatten, Ltd.
The sound here is very rough, though energetic and very a unique punk-ish sound.
Who had ever thought that there was something so close to punk-music in post-war Germany in the 60´s,and to realize:
The Monks are the predecessors of european Punk!
Enjoy!

Them - Band Of Gypsies (1967) (Ireland Psychedelic Garage)
Andreesen envia:
Them was a Northern Irish band formed in Belfast in April 1964, most prominently known for the garage rock standard "Gloria" and launching singer Van Morrison's musical career. The group was marketed in the United States as part of the British Invasion.
Partly produced by Kim Fowley, this album is full of strange, freaky R&B/garage rock from the post-Van Morrison era. Tracks include 'Gloria's Dream,' 'Suicide Song,' a great cover of Dylan's 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue,' and the manic classic 'People Let's Freak Out'; fifteen tracks in total including single mixes of 'Gloria's Dream' and 'Secret Police' as bonus tracks; jewel case package and fully detailed liner notes. A lost garage classic.

A disfrutar people

The two D.C. groups featured on this compilation (one side each), the Apollos and the Mad Hatters, released only a few obscure singles; most of the tracks here were actually previously unissued. The Apollos were a very routine, if raucous, garage band of the era, although their "That's the Breaks" is highly esteemed by some garage specialists. An alternate version of that tune is here, along with a couple of songs from other singles, and four live covers in pretty abysmal fidelity. The Mad Hatters are somewhat more interesting, with a more pronounced juvenile Dylan-influenced folk-rock feel. By far the best cut is their roaring cover of Lulu's "I'll Come Running," which is actually among the very top echelon of garage band singles; nothing else the group did came close.

Thee Midnighters - In Thee Midnite Hour!!!! (1964-1967) (USA Garage Beat)
Andreesen envia:
This East L. A. band from the 1960s is the epitome of the pure energy, exuberance, raw sexual energy that was rampant in neighborhoods of the time. The world was just past the cusp of a revolution in thinking that was spurred on by the music that was taking hold on the airways and fueled by the dissatisfaction with the status quo of values and mores. The music was raw and powerful, and resonated with and reflected off the listeners, and eventually the whole world bowed its head and gave in to this power that was coming into its own. This band, Thee Midniters (no misspelling, they were called Thee to differentiate them from Hank Ballard and The Midnighters) is the epitome of the power of that energy. Listen to the opening of the disc and Little Willie G's pleading cry, Let's Take A Trip Down Whittier Boulevard!!! and it is followed by Ronny Figueroa's scream, "Arriba!!! Arriba!!!" and it never lets down from this opening to the end some 55 plus minutes later. There is a raving raw version of Van Morrison's Gloria, a version of Chris Kenner's Land Of A Thousand Dances, that savages the more popular version by Cannibal & the Headhunters.
If you don't like raw guitars, up in your face lyrics and sound, then this disc will not appeal to you. However, for those of you who want to hear some of the hidden places from which R & R evolved; if you want to hear where Los Lobos, and The Blasters, and Carlos Santana, to name but 3, came from; if you like to know what how evolution occurs; turn into this one. Listen to the raw and rootsy versions of songs like Do You Love Me, Money, and Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", and see the genesis of popular music; see how little, and at the same time how much, music has changed.

The Clasics Rock All Stars.

These compilations focus mostly on the charms of American teenage beat & garage, with simple beats, songs and other obvious elements. Some of these highschool bands wanted to prove something but most of these bands just wanted to enjoy themselves, under the influence of The Beatles mostly. Their texts were possibly just meant mostly to win a certain girl. Those people who love this kind of innocent garage should definitely check out this perfect compilations.
Here you have 8 of 9 Volumes (Is there anybody out there who can post Vol.9??), in best quality and scanned covers.
The Quagmire Compilations are very hard to get, since each volume was limited to 500 pieces only.

That's the Way of The World". Altamente recomendable. Calidad a 320.

The Records formed out of the ashes of the The Kursaal Flyers, a pub rock group featuring drummer Will Birch. In 1977, John Wicks joined The Kursaals as a rhythm guitarist. Birch and Wicks quickly started writing songs together, Wicks as composer, Birch as lyricist. After the Flyers dissolved just three months after Wicks joined, and he and Birch continued to write songs together with the hopes of starting a new four-piece group with Birch on drums and Wicks on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Birch soon came up with a name for the formative band: The Records.
The Records was heavily influenced both by British Invasion bands like The Beatles and The Kinks and early power pop groups such as Badfinger, Big Star, and The Raspberries. Power pop was experiencing a renaissance on both sides of the Atlantic, thanks in large part to the burgeoning punk/new wave movement. Although most power pop groups were less amateurish and sported cleaner images than their punk contemporaries, they found inspiration in the stripped-down, straight-forward aesthetics of the movement, a sharp departure from the rock music that was prevalent in the early-to-mid 1970s.
here is the second Album of The Records, featuring 6(!) previously unreleased bonus tracks.

The band released only one full length album, The Merry-Go-Round (album) (1967). "Live", the first single from their album, was a top 10 smash at both KHJ in Los Angeles and KGB in San Diego, although it failed to crack the top 50 on the national charts. "Live" was covered by The Bangles in on their 1984 album All Over the Place and "Time Will Show The Wiser" was recorded by Fairport Convention on their debut album in 1968, a song still played regularly by Fairport at their Cropredy Festival.
